Cathy Brunskill originally trained as a contemporary dancer at the Laban Centre for Movement and Dance (now known as Trinity Laban Conservatoire for music and dance) London. She performed and taught dance until her late twenties.
During a trip to India to study Southern Indian Art forms she first encountered yoga while training in the martial art Kalaripayattu. She then returned to university for a year and gained a first class honours degree in Arts Practice and Cultural Policy.
Returning to London she trained as a Complimentary Therapist and worked for a number of years at White Hart Clinic, Barnes. During this time she took yoga classes at The Life Centre with the renowned Ashtanga Vinyasa teacher John Scott. She continued to take classes with him in London and travelled to Mysore, India to train with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, the founder of this style of yoga.
Realising that yoga was her passion she trained and qualified in 2001 to teach with The British Wheel of Yoga, the National Governing body for yoga in England. She became interested in the benefits of yoga for pregnancy, birth and beyond! and qualified with Francoise Barbira Freedman the founder of birthlight. She began teaching perinatal yoga and baby yoga on the Wirral and Merseyside for the Sure Start Children’s Centres in 2007. Cathy is also qualified to teach children from pre-school through to teenagers.
She has studied many traditions over the years and taught in health clubs, gyms, adult education and one to one with private clients.
Cathy now lives in West Kirby with her husband, two children and their Border Terrier, Bruin.
